So hey, what do you know? LG has officially unveiled the G Pro 2, a little ahead of the madhouse that is the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona at the end of the month. Along with this announcement comes an equally official list of technical specifications, and for anyone looking for a challenger to something like the Galaxy Note 3 (at least as far as screen size is concerned), this phone might be right up their alley.
First, let’s start with that 5.9-inch screen. The IPS display comes with full HD functionality, which means you’ve got 1980×1080 resolution to look forward to. LG has also made a point of bringing up the G Pro 2′s slim bezel, and looking at the press shots of the device, that doesn’t sound misleading at all. The entire package will be powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 CPU which is clocked at 2.26GHz, and will be working in tandem with a Qualcomm Adreno 330 GPU.
You’ll have 3GB of DDR3 RAM at your disposal with this bad boy, along with your choice of 16GB or 32GB of internal storage. If neither option is quite enough for your storage needs, the G Pro 2 also comes equipped with a microSD slot, so you shouldn’t have any problems expanding the memory if you need more. The phone will run Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box and comes complete with 4G LTE and HSPA+ functionality. For connectivity options, you’re looking at Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, NFC, and SlimPort. The rear-facing OIS+ sensor clocks in at 13MP, while the front-facing camera manages to hit 2.1MP
If, like some people (meaning me), you happen to hate sealed batteries, then here’s a bit of good news: the G Pro 2′s 3,200mAh battery will be removable. The phone will be available in White, Red, and Titan colors, and comes with an interesting feature called “Knock Code.” This feature allows you to unlock your phone using a pattern that requires just a couple of taps on the screen. Assuming it works as its intended, it sounds like a decent way to speed up the unlocking process while still keeping your phone secure.
That’s an impressive list of specifications to be sure, but there are a couple of very important details we’re still waiting on: price and availability. Hopefully those will be arriving later this month, so stay tuned for more.
